In a nine-player Texas Hold'em game, you are a favourite to win with roughly the top 15–20% of starting hands. Everything else is marginal at best. Premium hands are pocket pairs (Aces down to Tens), suited broadways (A-K suited, K-Q suited, A-Q suited), and strong connectors.
In early position — the first two or three seats after the big blind — tighten your range to premium hands only. In late position, particularly on the button, you can profitably play more hands because you have the advantage of acting last on every post-flop street. Position in poker means acting after your opponents on every betting street. The button (dealer position) is the most powerful seat at any JJ Wine poker table because you see what everyone else does before making your decision. Playing out of position — in the blinds, or early seats — is expensive over time. You are forced to act first with incomplete information.
